Chelsea pressure to sign Barcelona striker
Chelsea reportedly pushed hard to sign Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembele during the January transfer window despite recent comments from Blues coach Thomas Tuchel.
The France international was asked to leave Barcelona during the winter market, after he refused to sign a new deal, but the deadline passed with the striker staying at the Camp Nou.
A number of clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, were linked with his services in January.
Chelsea boss Tuchel said there was no contact with the World Cup winner at the start of 2022, but according to Mundo Deportivo, the London club have pushed even more to secure his services.
The report claims that European Cup holders are still interested in Dembele, but Paris Saint-Germain is currently at the top of the waiting list for his services on a free transfer.
Dembele was called up to the Barcelona squad to face Atletico Madrid on Sunday after he was excluded from their last two squads amid uncertainty over his future.
The 24-year-old scored one goal and supplied assists in 11 matches for the Catalan player during the 2021-22 season.
