Google recently launched the new standalone Google Meet app. Technically; it is a Progressive Web Application (PWA) because it relies on the resources of the Google Chrome browser. However, you no longer have to type the link or go to Gmail to start a Google Meet meeting. Now, you can simply download the app to your laptop, computer or MacBook and use it whenever you need it.
This means that if you have Google Meet installed on your computer, you will no longer have to search for it through the browser. It will be available in the Downloaded Apps section. Simply open it and start a meeting as you would on your smartphone with the apps you have installed. It is an easier and faster way to use this useful service from Google.
How to install Google Meet:
- Open Google Chrome (must be version 73 or later).
- Go to this Google Meet link.
- In the upper-right corner of the browser, click the Install button that appears in the address bar.
If you don’t see this option, sign in with your Google account, open a meeting, and then refresh the home page.
– After installation, Google Meet will open in a separate window and you can use it as an app.
It is worth noting that just a month ago, Zoom also launched its web app which brought more features and significantly improved performance compared to the previous Zoom app.
In this case, the new Google Meet app is exactly the same as the previous app, so we hope that in the future Google will improve it with more typical functions than a standalone app.
