The Qualcomm team has unveiled a renewed mid-generation Snapdragon 888 processor, a chip that was leaked and rumored months ago but has now been introduced, we are talking about the Snapdragon 888 Plus.
The processor you will need in your mobile phone: the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus
As with previous generations, Qualcomm is keeping the big changes for its next high-end processor in December, so we didn’t expect a revolution with the Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G, but some minor changes have been added to raise the raw performance and in terms of AI that will be available in the second half of 2021.
The new Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G processor is basically the same as the old Snapdragon 888 with two main differences. The first is that the CPU increases the clock speed and therefore its power. Kryo 680 cores are now running at 3GHz instead of 2.84GHz, so the overall performance of the processor is higher. The second is that the Hexagon chip is also evolving and the processor is now more efficient and powerful when it comes to AI code processing.
The Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G is also duplicated with the modem which makes it deliver up to 7.5Gbps for download on compatible networks, and up to 3Gbps under the same conditions. And of course, it continues to load the latest generation of Quick Charge 5.0 fast charging, allowing charging up to 100W with the latest manufacturer standards.
Like the Snapdragon 888, the updated version uses the Snapdragon X60 5G RF modem, Fast Connect 6900 technology, and the ISP Spectra 580 image processor – which allows triple capture of 4K video or 28MP photos.
