Why are more smartphones using MediaTek processors?

The COVID 19 pandemic has hit semiconductor production hard across the world as the infection has forced factories to close for a fixed period of time, resulting in delays and problems in providing for the needs of all their customers.

MediaTek was one of the companies affected by this situation, such as Samsung, Huawei, Apple, Qualcomm, and other manufacturers of processors used by millions of products around the world; From smart speakers to smart phones.

This situation has diminished differently for each manufacturer. For example, Samsung lost the title of the world’s No. 1 manufacturer to Xiaomi due to problems supplying processors for its smartphones during the month of June, which allowed the Chinese company to sell more phones worldwide.

But the amazing thing is that during the first half of 2021, we saw more releases with MediaTek processors, especially with some smartphones that were previously using Qualcomm processors.

One of the big surprises in 2021 was the launch of the OnePlus Nord 2, a phone that the Chinese brand wants to achieve super sales, and its predecessor (OnePlus Nords) had very positive reviews. However, it wasn’t a surprise when the phone was launched, but the brand chose a Mediatek processor, not Qualcomm, since the best OnePlus phones usually only use Snapdragon chips.

OnePlus engineers mentioned that the decision was due to the fact that the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor had the perfect performance they were looking for their new phone, which caused a surprise to more than one fan of the brand.

Alexandre Rojas, MediaTek’s director of sales, stated that one of the secrets that more manufacturers are betting on the company’s chips is that they have managed to weather the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The year 2022 will be even more surprising ahead. The most complicated part for MediaTek and other chip manufacturers is going beyond the manufacturing capabilities of our partners,” the executive said. Analysts say it will continue into 2022.”

In the face of this kind of crisis, the key is planning: “MediaTek has done very good planning with different business partners. This is what helped us through 2021, Alexandre Rojas said.

When the CEO was asked why more brands are betting on MediaTek processors, he commented that the key is planning well to meet the technology needs of partners and users.

The challenge for MediaTek is to continue to bet on solutions that are attractive to businesses and users even after the pandemic is over.
